It’s All Wrong
A friend has introduced me to the rather wonderful It’s All Wrong group on the even more wonderful Flickr. There are, among the rather unfunny pictures of fat people, some real gems. Have a browse for a few minutes and you’ll see what I mean.
Lost
On my way home from work last night I was concentrating so hard on not being knocked off my bike by an idiot in a car that I missed my turn. I decided that it’d be easier to carry on and look for a signpost than to turn round. Absolutely no signs later I found myself in Golders Green which, for those who don’t know London, is nowhere near a sensible route between the West End and Walthamstow.
On the plus side, at least the bike got a decent run.
Folk Revival (Again)
There’s a very nice little piece in today’s Observer about the current revival of English Folk music among young people. It’s something I’ve been into for many years and it’s nice to see it beginning to shake off its (only partially deserved) image of chunky sweaters, beards and fingers in the ear. If you haven’t yet investigated it, theres an incredibly rich tradition of wonderful music, great songs and stories and, if you’re that way inclined, dance out there.
Bye Bye, Squirrels
There’s just one thing that intrigued me about BBC News‘ story about the upcoming cull of grey squirrels. Apparently, we have a biodiversity minister. Who knew? Not me.
Bad Joke Time
London may not be in Wales, but there’s a whale in London. OK, OK, I’m sorry. What do you expect on a Friday night?
Back In The Saddle
This morning I rode my bike into work for the first time since starting my new job. It took about the same time as going in by tube but it was a whole lot cheaper and more enjoyable, so I shall stick with it unless the roads are icy or the bike’s off the road. I’ll have to be extra careful in the London traffic but I’m always very careful anyway, so that won’t be much of a problem.
The South Bank
I spent some time yesterday afternoon on the South Bank. It was very pleasant wandering around, despite the cold. There are plenty of places where you can get decent food and drink and sit down in the warm for a bit, all of which makes it more than bearable.
Anyway, I took this picture of St. Paul’s cathedral from quite a distance. You can see what a grey day it was.
Still Here
I haven’t fallen off the face of the planet. I just haven’t posted here for a while because, quite frankly, I’ve been too tired. Work is keeping me very busy and I’m enjoying it very much but by the time I get home in the evening all I really want to do is collapse in a heap in front of the TV until it’s time to haul my weary body into bed. I’ll try to update this site a little more often from now on. Honest.
Not A Good Start
I went up to Cambridge to celebrate the New Year, which was very nice. The journey home, however, was far from nice. The train back to London was stopped at Bishops Stortford because the train in front of it had hit someone on the line and killed them. It eventually went back up the line to Stanstead Airport, from where I jumped on a coach to Stratford and then a bus back home but it took ages and I was desperately hungry and thirsty by the time I got to London.
On the plus side, I did manage to catch ‘The Producers’ in Cambridge before I left and, while it’s not as good as the original, I did enjoy it very much. Good entertainment, but not great.
