Camden Coffee House

For a little while now I’ve been trying to find a good place to go at lunchtime to have a coffee and read. Today’s candidate is the Camden Coffee House. The website looked promising but I have to say that I’m somewhat disappointed. It’s so small that there’s nowhere to sit at a table and I’m forced to type this while sitting on a very uncomfortable bar stool.

I have a full-length coat, so somewhere to hang it would have been appreciated. The staff seemed friendly enough but they told me to take a seat and they’d bring my drink over to me, which they then failed to do.

The drink itself was fine, but it’s quite hard to ruin a hot chocolate. Maybe I should come back and try a tea or coffee. So far, though, I don’t think this is the place for me.

Update 14/12/10: I went back today and was much better pleased. The new coat rack was in place and very useful, my coffee was brought to my table and I was generally much more comfortable and happy.

  1. Hi Nick
Thank you for your honest review. Unfortunately space is a huge issue in my Camden shop nevertheless tried to make the most out of the area I had to work with. I have a terrace with an extra 20 seats in the back garden but it’s currently closed due to the weather, you probably saw the photos on the website. When I opened my second shop in Croydon I managed to get larger premises and as a result I can accommodate 36 seating customers at that shop (look on website for photos)

I totally agree with the coat issue and as a consequence just brought a coat stand. Sometimes you forget the smallest details so I appreciate you mentioning this.

For customers who sit in we like to deliver the drink to you rather than you standing and waiting for it. I do not understand why this did not happen with you and I sincerely apologise for this.

I am sorry you feel this is not the place for you, I have tried my hardest to offer the best in service, top quality and reasonably priced food/beverages, free Wi-Fi and small but intimate environment.

I hope to see you again if you’re in Camden, next one’s on me

  2. Thanks for the response. Thanks also for getting a coat stand – I may well pop in and test-drive it.

  3. Hi Nick,
I’m glad you had a better experience this time round 🙂 Still disappointed this happened in the first place nevertheless I always hope to learn from any mistakes we make.

I wish you a very merry xmas and a happy new year!
