The Goodies
I watched ‘The Return of the Goodies’ on BBC2 last night and loved every minute of it. I was a huge fan as a kid and had all the books, which I read over and over again. It was joyful to see Bill, Graeme and Tim back together again and to relive some of the best moments from the show. It’s scandalous that it’s never been repeated and the BBC should be ashamed of themselves. If the viewing figures from last night’s reunion show were good, perhaps they’ll be persuaded to put on some reruns.
Upgrade (At Last)
I had a bit of time on my hands this afternoon, so I’ve just upgraded this site to run on the latest version of WordPress. I hadn’t bothered to upgrade at all since I moved to Wordpress way back in the mists, so I was a bit apprehensive about the process but it proved to be entirely painless.
I keep meaning to have a proper tinker with the template for this site but I never seem to get around to that, either. Ah well…
Snow. Oh Joy.
When I got up this morning it was a little icy out but otherwise OK. Suddenly, as if from nowhere, it was snowing and now everything’s covered. The kids are having a fine old time outside and it looks very pretty right now while it’s still fresh and white but I still don’t like it. I know that it’ll be bloody slippery underfoot and it’ll soon turn into nasty brown slush. I know, I’m a miserable old bugger.
Still Alive
Oh, and yes, I’m still alive. My new job involves somewhat longer hours and tube travel, and I’ve been coming home pretty knackered and unwilling to spend time in front of the computer when I get here. I’m fine, though, and normal service will probably be resumed soon. Whatever ‘normal’ is.
Oh, Come On!
There have, apparently, been complaints about TV chef Gordon Ramsay’s programme, ‘The F Word’, showing turkeys being slaughtered. We all knew it was coming and there were warnings broadcast before the programme went out, so I really don’t see what all the fuss is about. If you don’t like a programme, turn the TV over or off, for goodness’ sake.
The End And The Beginning
Today was my last day at my old job and tomorrow is my first day in an exciting and, hopefully, very enjoyable new one. I shall miss my old colleagues, of course, but I shall try to stay in touch and it’ll be fun meeting my new ones. I feel a bit nervous about tomorrow but I suppose that’s natural when starting a new job and a whole new chapter in life.
Blogging And Journalism
Blogs reflect power of the pen. Interesting article by Bill Thompson on the impact of weblogging on ‘traditional’ journalism. I’m not entirely sure that the effect will really be all that great in the long term but I’m no expert. I certainly wouldn’t classify this particular weblog as journalism and it must be pretty obvious to anyone who’s read it that that’s not my aim. There’s been a lot of discussion about blogging turning conventional news reporting on its head somehow but, I have to confess, I’m not really interested enough to go into it all in any detail and form an opinion. At least, not right now.
