Yesterday I decided to have a wander along the South Bank, which turned out to be a really good idea. It was very enjoyable wandering along, stopping for a beer and poking around Borough Market and I came home with some fantastic bread, beer, Manx kippers (which I’ll be having for breakfast this morning) and a blueberry pie that looks delicious. I should go down there more often, I really should.

Ever since you were introduced to us in Japan by NHK, we have visited your website from time to time and enjoyed reading your insightful comments on various things. Wandering along the South Bank, stopping for a beer and poking around Borough Market–I can’t really imagine what it’s like to do so, because I haven’t been to your country yet..but everything sounds to me quite lovely and exotic. (Especially your mention of Manx kippers) It is also pleasant to wander around here at this time of year. I’d like to try your blueberry pie someday. What does it taste like? Instead of pie, we often buy rice cakes wrapped with fragrant leaves.

Blueberry pie tastes sweet (but not over sweet) and fruity. You’ll have to come here and try some! It’s difficult to know how to describe it in terms that would be useful to you because I’m not familiar with Japanese food. I should try it – there are plenty of Japanese restaurants here in London.
Blueberries, or “worts” grow wild in this vicinity and make lovely jam as well as pies, if you have the patience to pick them – they’re quite small. They look like blackcurrants but have a unique taste which is difficultt to describe. They’re also lovely in a pie with clotted cream.
How lucky you are to be living in a place where blueberries grow *wild*! Have you also tried picking them and making jam? I would love to, if I were there. Recently I made some strawberry jam, but the berries I used were sadly from a supermarket…
You can laugh at my ignorance, but I’m not sure about what “clotted cream” is like, either. Is it what we call whipping cream here? Or a lot thicker? In any case, it sounds like so heavenly delicious–wild blueberry pie and clotted cream. Hmm…nice.
Not wild blueberries, but wild monkeys we can see in nearby mountains. Few people dare to put them in a pie, though.
